Guest Chef teaches the RHS Food Prep class
(January 24, 2014 - Riverhead, NY) A guest chef (Tyler Reinhart) from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI recently taught Jan Szczesny's Food Prep class at Riverhead High School how to make sweet potato dumplings. He began by talking to the students about his chosen profession, the opportunities for "real world experiences" at Johnson and Wales, his internship in New Zealand, and finally the specific art of cooking sweet potato dumplings. He quizzed the class on their knowledge of both food and the preparation process, and then, true to the hands-on nature of his university's tradition, he got some of the students into the act of preparing the dumplings. Bella sauteed; Troy and Logan did the assembling of the dumplings and the whole class participated in the tasting. Yummy and spicy. (See Recipe.)
