AQUEBOGUE: ANNUAL FIELD TRIP TO SUNKEN FOREST ON FIRE ISLAND
(May 27, 2014) For many years, Sailor’s Haven on Fire Island has been a wonderful field trip taken by all 3rd grade students and teachers from the Aquebogue School. It is an environmental study that is interactive and interdisciplinary.
"This year, the field trip aligned very nicely with the third grade level’s common core water cycle study. It included poetry writing, topography of Long Island, and the reading of non-fiction," stated Aquebogue Principal Phil Kent. "Students completed a variety vocabulary and reading assignments prior to the field trip. They were able to identify plants, trees and other vegetation. Along the wrack line, students participated in identifying sea creature remains and shells. It is a wonderful culminating activity and a great time!" "A large number of parent chaperones shared the day with the students, creating a sense of community amongst the Aquebogue families and TEAM," stated third grade teacher Stacey Butterfield. "We learned so much from one another throughout the day’s experience. Our wonderful PTO financially sponsored this field trip so that every child could attend without cost. " |
